Themes (Skins) Updates

Today I have been creating modified “settings.json” files for each and every one of the themes that we currently have for download in our GarlicOS Themes section.
After a while, I have been able to verify that the vast majority of GarlicOS users prefer to have the images of the games on the left and their names on the right, and there are many times that I have read comments from users asking about them on Reddit. how to modify it or how to do it, since most themes come with the text centered on the screen.
So I got to work and created the 83 modifications, 1 for each theme, and added them to the list in the Themes section for GarlicOS, so that no one has to download the full themes again. You will be able to see the download button next to the theme download button.
To change it you will only have to unzip it and replace the “settings.json” file in the theme’s SKIN folder. This way you can have the images on the left and the text on the right.

The next thing is to review all the Themes and Boot Logos content that you have sent and publish them and add them to each corresponding section. Thank you for waiting and patience.

Weekend Updates

The developer XQuader sends me these modified and improved Dual-Stock firmware Scripts so that everyone can use them in their GarlicOS installation.
These Scripts are used to create a backup and restore of the GarlicOS configuration files, in case we make any changes and want to reverse it, such as changing some core… We can also return our GarlicOS system to factory. We have included it in our Apps for GarlicOS section and it is available for download there!

In addition to this, XQuader has compiled new versions of various cores so that we can update them, since they improve compatibility with games.
Here I leave the publication: (Links to updates)

TIC-80 (tic80): It is actively developed and the changelog is just too big, the most noticeable is HUGE performance improvement. I used bunnymark snd crapmark, benchmarks, and here are some results:

  • Bunnymark (bunnies number till stutters): 40 bunnies in old core, 340 bunnies in new core

  • Crapmark (overall score): 3170 in old core, 10015 in new core

PICO-8 (fake08): added RetroArch controls remapping.

Amiga (uae4arm): The uae4arm core that comes with Garlic OS just freezes my device, I’ve compiled a new one and in tested cases, it performs better than PUAE2021 (but it has fewer configurations options/features and fewer supported formats, e.g. not all hdf‘s are loading). I used a game as a benchmark – Fire And Ice, slight underclock (single minus), Threaded Video ON:

  • constant stutter in PUAE2021 even with frameskip and reduced “CPU Speed” core option,

  • almost smooth gameplay in UAE4ARM (rare slowdowns when there are a lot of effects)

Commodore set (vice c64, c128, plus4, etc.): there was a big update from the upstream project (v3.7 on Feb 12), but other than that mostly bug fixes.

Atari 800 (Atari800): Added savestate support, Rewind support, Disc Control menu (Supports Disks, Tapes, and M3U files), fixes for control issues, etc.

Atari ST (hatari): improved virtual keyboard (change keys position and colors closer to an ST), some bugfixes

ZX Spectrum (fuse): Added proper joystick management, and fixes for some control issues.

Uzebox (uzem): old core doesn’t work at all, new core “works”, but in tested games, it stutters even on overclock++

And tomorrow, more things that I have pending… 😉

Thanks to XQuader for his tireless work!! Updates are available in the Apps section for GarlicOs

New Official Anbernic Firmware Dual (Stock + GarlicOs)

Just a few hours ago the news broke that Anbernic had released a new version of its stock firmware, this time Dual, with the possibility of starting GarlicOs as well.
We have not yet been able to test the system, which includes some new Apps and other well-known ones, some presets apparently made by Anbernic, and some ports of games that we will already have on the page for sure.
When we investigate further, we will provide you with more information. For now we leave you with the Official Youtube video. In the description of the video there is a link to download this latest firmware, bios, and even roms!
However, we have already made our backup copy in case it disappears…

16 Themes Updated

Today, thanks to a comment on a Reddit post, we discovered that some themes were not working correctly with RetroArch, as there was no Oswald font in the “font” folder inside “skin”. We’ve gone through all the themes again, and found 16 that didn’t have this font, so we’ve updated them. If you had any of these themes downloaded and they didn’t work correctly with RetroArch, you can download them again, and we hope that this time we have solved that problem!

Updated Themes:- CatOs
– Dreamsicle
– Garlic Fusion
– Garlic MinUified
– GOSFC
– Minimal Dungeon
– Minui Garlicos
– Monoscreen Dark
– Monoscreen Light
– Moving Dungeon
– P535XX
– Pip-Boy
– Salad Edition
– Super Playboy
– Super Playboy 2

Pending things…

First of all I want to send a greeting to the EOL community, I know they read us, (I read you too!)

As I have already commented on some occasion, this community that has formed on Reddit and Discord around this console is causing many things to appear about it on a daily basis; Firmware updates almost daily, Themes, Apps, Boot Screen, and more!

From RG35XX.COM we try to keep up to date and report on everything we see as the most relevant, but for us this is a hobby and we dedicate just a little while each day, and sometimes we don’t have time for more, but little by little we are updating everything. Now we have a few days off in Spain, my country, and I will take the opportunity to catch up with the themes and boot logos that you have been sending us, as well as optimizing the existing ones.

We are also going to create a guide with the necessary adjustments in RetroArch to be able to enjoy each CORE as faithful to the original console that we are emulating whenever possible, since many people are tired of making changes in configurations here and there once and again and what they really want is to PLAY and not fidget so much. We are going to try to make it easy so that you only have to do it once!

And meanwhile, for the most gamers, we leave you here links for a couple of interesting things:No introduction is needed, an impressive collection of games thanks to EBZero and that we have added to our Bios and Roms section.

We also leave you a RomHack that is very fashionable lately for the MedaDrive/Genesis console, since unfortunately we cannot use the official version on the RG35XX, but it will delight fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, (Ninja Turtles) :

Also available in our Bios and Roms section.

More Updates…

Since the last update of the site we have had problems to edit the tables and files, but we have already solved it.

In this short period of time, GarlicOs has received 4 more updates, with several changes, and the developers have been updating their APPS and PORTS, to continue making them compatible.
XQuader and eggs have notified us and provided the updates that you already have available, and we have added a column in which to view the compatible versions.
JoeStaff brings us another Port, from the mythical Jazz Jackrabbit, for which we will need to have the game’s installation files, but surely they are on Archive.org… 😉

In addition, we are filling the TV section with content with RETRO series that we are converting to be able to enjoy them on our console and that we take advantage of to share with all of you. (They are our personal taste, but you still like them or coincide with yours).

We will continue to add themes, and update existing ones for better compatibility and performance.

Changes in the latest version of GarlicOs 1.3.5

The latest version of the GarlicOs Custom Firmware, version 1.3.5, contains a substantial improvement in the system and with RetroArch, but on the other hand makes it incompatible with other things, which developers will have to solve in Ports and Apps. This is what the changelog indicates:

– The gamepad driver has been rewritten from scratch and now acts like a proper XInput gamepad (this fixes the double-keyboard input issue in all keyboard-based cores, the RA search dialog and several other RA text input menu points but will break ports & apps with hardcoded gamepad mappings, because of this, a mirror of version 1.3.4 will be kept up for a month to give port and app developers time to adapt to these changes).

For his part, the XQuader Developer has already done his homework, and has updated all his Ports and Apps to make them compatible with this latest version, so if you have already updated to GarlicOs 1.3.5, you should also update these Ports and Apps to continue to function as before.

Batocera Lite keeps getting better…

The latest Batocera Lite update for the RG35XX is now available thanks to the developer Acmeplus, and you can download it from their github: https://ko-fi.com/post/Batocera-Lite-for-RG35XX-Alpha-Test-0- 3-P5P0JRWBZ.

Although there are still many things that do not work, many others have already been corrected, and thanks to the unlocked GPU, and other memory adjustments, things have improved a lot. To such an extent that they are watching videos of users who are already testing Dreamcast, Nintendo 64 and Playstation Portable games!!; Logically, the titles that it can run are the lightest and easiest to emulate, but it’s great news for everyone to see what our little console is capable of…
